Scouting Bio for our Secretary - Michael Moskowitz
Mike first joined Scouting in 1974 as
Cub Scout in Pack 650 Brooklyn. After
earning the Arrow of Light he became a
Boy Scout in Troop 650. Later when that
Troop folded he joined Troop 640. Mike
was inducted into the Order of the Arrow
with Shu Shu Ga Lodge in 1980. In 1980
Mike’s family moved to Nassau County and
Mike transferred to Troop 189 in Wantagh
and to Buckskin Lodge. In 1981 he sealed
his vows in Brotherhood. He served as a
Chapter Secretary and then Chapter
Chief. Mike also served as Vice-Chairman
for Lodge Training and on the Section
Conclave Staff. He received the Vigil
Honor from Buckskin in 1986. Mike’s
Vigil name translates into Silent Server
of Two Tribes (for his constant service
to Scouting in NYC and Nassau County).
Mike earned the rank of Eagle Scout with
one Palm in 1983. He completed Troop
Leadership Training in 1981. Mike’s
first year at Ten Mile River was 1979 at
Camp Kunatah as a Provisional Camper.
Mike joined the TMR staff in 1982 at
camp Kunatah where he was the Assistant
Nature Lodge Director. In 1984 he went
to work in Camp Keowa where he served as
Nature Lodge Director for two summers
and then in 1986 he became the Program
Commissioner. Mike held that job to the
following summer. He has been a
volunteer at TMR ever since. Mike
completed National Camp School for Camp
Commissioner in 1986, and then for Camp
Visitation in 1999 and 2001. While at
college Mike helped to re-colonize the
Theta Chi Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega of
which he is a Life Member.
Mike has completed Commissioner
Training, Cub Leader Training, and
Webelos Outdoor training. From Theodore
Roosevelt Council, Mike received the
Commissioners Arrowhead Award, and the
Commissioners Key in 1999, the Shofar
Award in 2001, and the Cub Scouter Award
and Cub Master Award in 2001. Mike
received the District Award of Merit in
2002. In Greater New York
Councils, Mike is a Merit Badge
Councilor, a member of the GNYC Camp
Inspection Team and is registered to
Troop 170 in the Bronx as a Committee
Member. Mike completed the Scoutmaster
Fundamentals Course in 1999, and earned
the Scouters Training Award from
GNYC-Bronx Council in 1999.. He took the
Woodbadge Course (NEII-114) in the Fall
of 2000 and finished his ticket in 2002.
Mike served as the Secretary-Treasurer
of the Friends of Ten Mile River until
the position was split, he is the
current Secretary. For many years
Mike served three different Scout units,
two in Nassau Count and Troop 170 in The
Bronx . Currently Mike is on the Troop
Committee of 170. Mike also continues to
serve as a Merit Badge Counselor in both
GNYC and Theodore Roosevelt Council.
Mike was made the 3rd recipient of FOTMR's annual honoree award.
Mike was appointed to the GNYC
Camping Committee in the fall of 2000.
Mike currently works for the North
Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System
as a Project Manager. Mike got
married in 2005 and his wife Beth is
also a member of FoTMR. They purchased a
home in Wantagh, LI in 2005. In
2006, Mike received the Distinguished
Commissioner Award from Theodore
Roosevelt Council. Mike and Beth
have two great sons. |
